Alvespimycin is a compound derived from geldanamycin and acts as an inhibitor of heat shock protein (HSP) 90. It has been investigated in clinical trials for its potential to treat solid tumors in various types of cancer as an antitumor agent. Compared to the first HSP90 inhibitor, tanespimycin, alvespimycin offers several beneficial pharmacological properties, including lower metabolic risk, reduced plasma protein binding, improved water solubility, enhanced oral bioavailability, decreased liver toxicity, and more effective antitumor activity.
