Lamivudine is chemically 4-Amino-1-[(2R,5S)-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-oxathiolan-5-yl]pyrimidin-2(1H)-one (as per EP) ; 2(1H)-Pyrimidinone, 4-amino-1-[2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-oxathiolan-5-yl]-, (2R-cis) (as per USP). It is also known as (–)-1-[(2R,5S)-2-(Hydroxymethyl)-1,3-oxathiolan-5-yl]cytosine (USP). Lamivudine is supplied with detailed characterization data compliant with regulatory guideline.
